Language learning made easy.

Rocket Arabic review

Rocket Arabicby Gerrit du Plessis

A program named Rocket ought to be fast, and Rocket Arabic lives up to its name. In my opinion, this is the fastest way to learn Egyptian Arabic online compared to any other program I’ve seen — regardless of the way you learn. What do I mean by that? Well, you’ve probably noticed that some people seem to remember and process everything they hear, some people need to see it written down, and some people seem to only be able to remember something after they’ve done it once or twice. These are more than quirks – they’re learning styles, as developed by Dr. Neil Fleming in his well-known VARK model. Language instructional methods have traditionally only targeted auditory learners – people who learn by hearing — leaving visual and kinesthetic learners out in the cold.

Rocket Arabic is different. If you are an auditory learner, you’ll probably gain most of your knowledge from listening to their very engaging dialogues, which will move you rapidly toward acquiring a good accent. If you’re a visual learner, you’ll appreciate the fact that the dialogues are accompanied by a transcript, so you’ll be able to read along – first in a sort of phonetic Romanized type, and eventually in Arabic (which you’ll learn as you go). And if you’re a kinesthetic learner – the type of person who remembers what he does – you’ll love the two video games included with the program. Just in case you doubt you’re actually learning, there are self-tests you can take to track your progress, helping you reinforce everything you’ve learned. You’ll be amazed at how well you can learn Arabic online in such a short time, while enjoying every minute of it!

It’s critically important to understand Arab culture as well as the mechanics of the way Arabic works, and for this reason Rocket Arabic includes language and culture lessons along with the dialogues. And there’s an amazing feature called Rocket Record that allows you to compare your spoken Arabic with that of a native speaker. But even with all these aids in place, eventually you’ll run into a problem of some kind, and you’ll wish you knew a native Arabic speaker who could help you. Not a problem – Rocket Arabic offers an exclusive learner’s forum, populated 24/7 with native speakers as well as learners like you. Just go online and ask! Your membership in the forum never expires, even years after you’ve completed the course.

So in the categories of usefulness, clarity, and value, I’d say Rocket Arabic is hard to beat. I believe it to be the best way to learn Egyptian Arabic online, and I’ve awarded it first prize!
