Pimsleur Arabic review

By

Being a very visual learner myself, I'm not a fan of the Pimsleur method. Dr. Paul Pimsleur, the developer of this very well-respected series of language programs, believed that since we all learn our first language through hearing it spoken to us and attempting to repeat it, we should be able to learn any subsequent languages that way too. Consequently, Pimsleur Digital Arabic teach no grammar or sentence structure and involve no reading. You learn Arabic completely through listening and imitating what you've heard.

The lessons are intentionally extremely repetitive, and focus heavily on achieving an almost flawless accent. Auditory learners who have a very hard time learning languages and NEED that much repetition may find Pimsleur Digital Arabic the perfect way to learn Arabic. Most people, however, need a little more excitement - and a few more visual cues - than Pimsleur supplies.

By the way, students who purchase the Pimsleur Digital Arabic Course will not only have to choose their level but their Arabic dialect as well - the Arabic spoken in Syria or Lebanon sounds a bit different from the Arabic spoken in Egypt, so the Pimsleur people (with their finely-tuned ear for accents) made them two separate courses. But notice that regardless of the dialect you choose, this is only Arabic Phase ONE. There are three levels. Each is $143.99. Make use of the 15% discount coupon above to save some money on this course.

Utilizing the Pimsleur method all the way from beginner level through advanced could be a very expensive and time-consuming proposition - and you still probably will not learn Arabic vocabulary as thoroughly as you would with a single Rocket Arabic course. For this reason, I've placed Pimsleur Digital Arabic third in my survey.
