Transparent French review
By Gerrit du Plessis
Transparent French Complete Edition price seemed tempting, at a very reasonable
$179.95 for an electronic download (add an additional $9.95 for a backup CD). But when we examined
its features, it became apparent that this course will not really help you learn French online.
It's not a total waste of money; it's just a very lightweight introduction to French.
There is no interactive learner's forum; there's a "total immersion DVD" which allows you to
listen to people speaking French. There are no customizable lessons; there's an "interactive
conversation practice with playback." This seems a great deal like the way you probably learned
foreign languages in school; the manufacturers have just taken your school and made it
downloadable.
Transparent French would serve your needs if you needed to learn a few French phrases
in order to travel. But a basic English/French phrase book would do the same. If you really want to
learn French, you're probably not going to be satisfied with this product. Rather have a look at
Rocket French here. It's much less expensive than
Transparent French, and it's proven to work for all learning styles.
