Transparent Italian Review (Complete Edition)

Transparent Languages is a well-known name in language education. Their products were designed to facilitate declarative learning as their foundation. In short their learning system focus more on teaching you words and short Italian phrases, allowing you to recall it from memory when needed.

Transparent Italian Complete Edition is their most advance level of instruction and retails for $179.95 for both the instant download version and their Windows DVD set. Transparent Italian is not Mac compatible, so if you do use a Mac you must rather use Rocket Italian that I've reviewed below.

Pros: Speech recognition technology, learn over 65,000 Italian words, progress tracking, games, and quizzes.

Cons: Too much focus on learning vocabulary, it's more expensive than Rocket Italian, and their speech recognition can be a pain if you have a strong accent.

Bottom Line: Transparent Italian is lite weight when compared against Rocket Italian, and you'll quickly notice that they teach you words that you'll probably never use while in Italy. In my opinion Transparent Italian will teach you a solid vocabulary list, but it will not teach you to speak Italian fluently.

Rocket Italian Review (Premium)

Rocket Italian focus on teaching you conversation Italian, meaning you'll learn words and phrases that you'll most likely will use while in Italy. The course materials are presented in a fun and entertaining way and they provide learning resources for all learning styles, like audio lessons, software games, language and culture lessons, progress tracking, and much more.

Rocket Italian's online version is also very affordable at only $99.95, and you do have the option to add their intermediate course, Rocket Italian Premium Plus, to your course material at the checkout. If you are planning to live, work, or do business in Italy then you must get their intermediate course as well. If you are only planning to visit Italy as a tourist than Rocket Italian Premium is all you'll need.

Pros: Interactive MP3 audio lessons, learning games, forum support, technical support, language and culture lessons, quizzes and self-tests, flashcards, can download lessons or learn online, Windows and Mac compatible.

Cons: CD pack too expensive, however the online version is just perfect.

Bottom Line: Rocket Italian is a fun and entertaining way to learn spoken Italian, how to read, write and understand Italian and you'll learn more about Italian culture. If you don't learn Italian with Rocket Italian, you'll never be able to learn it...
